What is GovInspect, and how does it sync with GovPilot?

GovInspect is our mobile app for staff who work in the field, such as building inspectors, code enforcement officers, and public works crews. It lets you see your schedule, perform inspections on site, record results, take photos, and send everything back to GovPilot without paper or a trip to the office. It uses the same sign-in as your GovPilot account. This article explains what the app does, how syncing works, and what to check when results or photos are not showing up in GovPilot.

Which modules work with GovInspect

GovInspect supports Report a Concern, Certificate of Continued Occupancy (CCO), Construction, and General Service Work Orders.

How to get the app

On an iPhone, open the App Store. On an Android device, open Google Play. Search for GovInspect.
Tap Download or Install. The app icon appears on your home screen.
Open the app and enter your GovPilot email and password, then tap Sign In. You may be offered Face ID for future sign-ins.
Grant location and camera permissions when asked. The app needs them for directions and photo attachments.

If you cannot sign in, contact your system administrator. GovInspect only works for GovPilot users and uses the same credentials as your desktop account.

What you see in the app

After signing in, the Home Screen shows today's scheduled tasks. You can switch between List View and Map View using the toggle below the menu bar. In List View, each task shows its module (color coded), reference number, address, and time frame, with shortcuts for directions and the property's profile. In Map View, your tasks appear as pins on a map. The search icon lets you look up any property, not just the ones on your schedule, and open its Property Profile to report a concern, add notes, or add attachments.

How syncing works

GovInspect needs an active internet connection to send data to GovPilot. When you are connected, inspection results, notes, and photos you add in the app appear on the matching record in GovPilot. The reference number shown in the app matches the record on the desktop.

If you are working somewhere without cellular or Wi-Fi service, you can use Offline Mode:

Tap the Wi-Fi icon in the top menu, then tap Activate Offline.
Perform inspections and complete forms as usual. Everything saves on your device.
When you are back in service, tap the Wi-Fi icon again and tap Deactivate Offline. The app syncs all completed entries to GovPilot.
Do not close the app until the sync finishes.

Not every feature is available in Offline Mode.

Inspection results are not showing in GovPilot

Check that the device has an internet connection.
Look for a sync indicator in the app and trigger a sync manually if the option is available.
Close the app completely and reopen it to force another sync attempt.

Photos are not saving

Confirm the device has storage space available.
Make sure the photo finished capturing before you moved away from the field.
If the photo shows in the app but not in GovPilot, trigger a manual sync, or log out of the app and sign back in.

When to reach out to our support team

If results or photos still do not appear after the steps above, reach out to our support team. Include the inspection record number, the device type (iPhone or Android), the device's operating system version, the app version (shown in your profile under the three-bar icon in the app), what happens now, and what you expected to happen.

✅ Pro Tip: Notes you add in the app as an Internal Note appear on the record in GovPilot. A Note to Contacts is sent as an email to the record's contacts instead, so choose the note type carefully.
