Turn Off the Code Requirement for Emailed Attachments
The code requirement stays on for every module until someone turns it off. System Admin and Security Admin users can turn it off one module at a time in Account Settings.
When GovPilot emails an attachment out of your account, the recipient is asked for a code before the file will open. That protection applies to every module by default. As of October 28, 2026, you can turn it off for individual modules when the extra step is not a good fit for how a department works.
Nothing changes in your account unless you change it.
Before you begin
- You need System Admin or Security Admin access. If you are not sure which role you have, check with whoever manages users in your account.
- The setting is configured one module at a time, so decide which modules you want to change before you start.
Turn off the code requirement
- Click the gear icon in the upper right corner to open Account Settings.
- Select Module Configuration.
- Search for the module you want to change, then select it.
- Open the Module Setup tab.
- Click REQUIRE A CODE TO OPEN EMAILED ATTACHMENTS, shown in blue. Clicking the setting name opens it for editing.
- Clear the setting, then click Save.
Heads up: The setting name itself is the link. If the setting looks locked, click the blue text to open it first.
To turn the requirement back on, return to Module Setup, open the setting again, restore it, and save.
What the change affects
- One module, one account. Clearing the setting for Construction Permit has no effect on OPRA, Report a Concern, or any other module, and no effect on any other municipality.
- Future emails only. Attachments that already went out keep the protection they were sent with. If someone needs an unprotected copy of an earlier document, resend it after you save the change.
- Attachments only. Your workflows, recipients, and email wording stay exactly as they are.
While the setting is in place, anyone who receives an attachment from that module is prompted for a code before the file opens. Once you clear it, attachments from that module open directly.
Troubleshooting
I do not see Module Configuration
Module Configuration is limited to System Admin and Security Admin users. Ask an administrator in your municipality to make the change, or contact GovPilot support and we can take care of it with you.
Recipients are still asked for a code
Check which module sent the email and when it went out. The setting is configured per module, so an email from a different module follows that module's own setting, and anything sent before you saved the change carries the original protection.
A recipient needs a copy of a document that already went out
Open the record, go to Log, and select the Correspondence tab. Find the email, open it, and choose Resend This Email. The new copy follows the module's current setting.
