How do I create a new construction permit from the Home Page?
Start a new construction permit from the Home Page.
Use this process when a new construction, alteration, or system installation requires a permit. A new permit can be created from multiple places in the system, but all methods follow the same basic flow: select a property, open a new permit record, review the default information, and begin entering project details.
Steps to create a new construction permit from the Home Page
-
From the Home Page, click New Record at the top of the navigation bar.
- Select Construction Permit from the module list.
-
Start typing the address or APN and select it from the populated drop-down.
Once the property is selected, a new permit record is automatically created at that address.
Or toggle the Search type drop-down to search by Block and Lot. - Review the default information on the Identification and Property tabs.
-
Begin entering permit-specific details such as Description of Work, Work Type, and required contacts.
-
Click Save to store your progress before navigating away.
🚨 Important: The system does not auto-save. Any changes—including attachments—will be lost if the record is not saved.
Where can I start a new permit from?
You can create a new construction permit from:
-
The Homepage
-
The Data Viewer
-
An existing construction permit using Create New in the record toolbar
All options generate the same new permit form once the property is selected.
What information is filled in automatically?
When the permit is created, the system pre-fills:
-
Status: Applied
-
Date Entered: Today’s date
-
Census Item: 999
-
Permit Type: 6
-
Use Group: R-5 (Residential, one- and two-family dwellings)
Always review these defaults and update them if the project requires something different.
✅ Pro Tip: Even though some fields are pre-filled, double-check the Owner in Fee, Use Group, and Work Site details before moving forward. Small errors early can cause delays during review and inspections.
