How do I add module layers to the GIS Map?

Add module data to the GIS map to visualize records by location and improve analysis and decision-making.

Module layers in GovPilot display records from a specific module view directly on the GIS map. This lets you see exactly where records—such as open permits, reported concerns, or inspections—are located, helping you spot patterns, plan work more efficiently, and communicate findings clearly.

Add a module layer to the GIS map

Follow these steps to add a layer from any module view to the map:

  1. Make sure you have a view in the module you want to map – Open the desired module and create or confirm a view that contains the records you want to display (e.g., "In Progress" concerns from Report a Concern).

  2. Open the map – From the Home page, click the Map icon in the navigation menu.

  3. Expand Module Layers – Click the arrow next to Module Layers to display the list of available layers.

  4. Click Add Layer – At the top of the Module Layers list, click + Add Layer.

  5. Select the module – From the dropdown list, choose the module that contains the view you created.

  6. Select the view – Pick the view you want to map. Note: Layers with 500 or more records will not display—create smaller views if needed.

  7. Save automatically – The layer is saved as soon as you select the module and view. You’ll be taken to layer settings automatically, or you can click the wrench icon next to the layer to adjust it later.

That’s it!

Your layer is now added to the map and ready to go.
